    Details:
On May 5, 2013, as part of the AWWA action this year, the Neighborhood Friends Team is presenting an exhibit from the Presbyterian Historical Society in the Social Room between 8 a.m. and Noon. The exhibit is titled "Presbyterians and the Civil War: Witnesses to a Great Moral Earthquake."

2011-2015 marks the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War. One month after the attack on Fort Sumter, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. convened in Philadelphia, where the Southern commissioners withdrew from the Assembly. The Southerners subsequently met in Atlanta in August 1861, where 11 of 45 presbyteries urged the formation of a new denomination called the Presbyterian Church in the Confederate States of America (PCCSA). However, around 1983 the north and south churches rejoined into today’s PCUSA.

"Witnesses to a Great Moral Earthquake" uses sermons, manuscript diaries and letters, published materials, prints and photographs drawn from the collections of the Presbyterian Church to share the stories of American Presbyterians during this pivotal moment in the history of the United States. In addition, historical records of the Civil War and personal accounts of service will be on display from members of WPC and the Webster Museum.
